Each status page has a language. It controls the words Observer puts on the page (labels, buttons, status words, empty states) and how dates and numbers are formatted. It does not translate what you write.

Supported languages

Every page uses English until you choose otherwise.

Change the language

1

Open the page in the page editor

In the console, open Pages and select the page.
2

Pick a language

In the Identity section, choose a language from Language.
3

Save

Click Save. The public page, on its subdomain and on its custom domain, renders in the new language from the next request.
One page has one language; visitors cannot switch it. To serve two languages, create a page per language.

What is translated

  • The page interface: status words (“Operational”, “Degraded”), section headings, the uptime calendar, the incident history, the upcoming maintenance list, buttons, and footer links.
  • Dates, times, and numbers: month and weekday names, word order, and the 12- or 24-hour clock follow the language. Times still use the timezone set in Identity.
  • The page’s subpages: incident permalinks and history, the Reliability Center, the password prompt, and the not-found page.
  • The subscribe form, its error messages, and the pages a subscriber sees after clicking a link: confirmation, unsubscribe, and subscription preferences.
  • The embeddable status widget.
  • The default browser tab title, the default search description, and the page’s declared language (<html lang>), which screen readers and search engines use.

What is not translated

  • Anything you write: the page title, incident and maintenance titles and updates, service and metric names, descriptions, footer link labels, and a custom search description. Write these in the page’s language yourself.
  • Notifications: subscriber emails (including the confirmation email) and Slack, Teams, and webhook messages are sent in English.
  • Machine-readable surfaces: the Atom and RSS feeds, the calendar feed, the JSON status document and badge. Their field names and fixed text stay in English.
  • The console. Only the public page changes.
